The color white symbolizes innocence and purity which is found in Waverlys disposition and the pieces are found to be weaker than the men as Waverly finds it difficult to overcome her mothers confidence and power. This leads to Waverly feeling overwhelmed and unable to venture out and away from her mother. Although Waverly and her mother have their share of quarrels, they find a way to balance each other out even if they are opposites of one another.
